Music News: Songwriters Hall of Fame nominees announced

The nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame have been announced, with the possibility of making history for one of the nominees. Author Haruki Murakami will donate a record collection of more than 10,000 records to his alma mater. A Willie Nelson tribute will be held next year. Vampire Weekend's new album will come out in 2019 and we reflect on the unique Iceland Airwaves festival.

First Avenue to purchase Fitzgerald Theater from MPR

The 1910-built, 1,000-seat venue has been operated by Minnesota Public Radio since 1980. Minneapolis-based First Avenue, one of the longest running, independently owned clubs in the U.S., looks to help 'grow St. Paul's music scene' once the deal is finalized.
