Dylan Hicks has been in the midst of a long-term hiatus. We saw the release of his last record in 2001 after a string of prolific efforts starting all the way back in 1990. Maybe he was tired and maybe he needed something new, but we can at least partially chalk up his absence as the result of his most recent endeavor: Boarded Windows, Hicks' new book.

The main character, Bowling Greene, considers himself a second tier outlaw country singer. The book chronicles Greene's life, creating a protagonist and backstory that seems extremely realistic. This feeling only bolsters itself through Hicks' second project, the release of Dylan Hicks Sings Bowling Greene, giving the singer ample room to explore the book character's songs through his own lens. The lines become increasingly blurry between fiction and reality, but the concept is one that Hicks obviously spent years fine-tuning.

Songs performed: "What I Want," "Thank You For Your Postcard" and "Days Of Dayton, Nights of Columbus"
