MPR News Arts Reporter Marianne Combs joins Jill Riley to talk about arts events that draw inspiration from a variety of sources.

Body and Machine — This show opens Saturday night at the Northrup King building in Minneapolis, and it consists of kinetic art — art that moves. On opening night, Saturday, March 7, there will be a performance by Savage Aural Hotbed.

Alleged Dances — This world premiere is the result of the collaboration between Twin Cities dance company Black Label Movement and the Bakken Trio. Set to a series of musical vignettes composed by John Adams entitled John's Book of Alleged Dances, the Black Label Movement choreographed actual dances to accompany the works. Concerts are at the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts in Minneapolis.

Nobel Creations — This exhibition at the American Swedish Institute features art inspired by the Nobel Prize; specifically, rooms, dresses, music and floral designs based on each of the prizes of 2013, including the fields of around economics, science and more. "Nobel Creations: Inspired by the Nobel Prize" rund through May 24 at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. (See Marianne Combs's in-depth story about this exhibition.)
