Seratones perform in The Current studio

A.J. Haynes of the Shreveport, La., band Seratones says it was "inevitable" she and the other band members would meet one another. "There's so many creative and innovative people, and we all support each other," Haynes says of Shreveport. "It's very small, very close knit. There are a lot of musicians, a lot of talent."
The band members had been playing in various projects, and it was when they were performing together in the Hot Springs, Ark., area that they got signed to Fat Possum Records. Seratones are now touring in support of their debut album, Get Gone, released in May 2016. With a show at the Turf Club in St. Paul, Minn., Seratones — Haynes, Connor Davis (guitar), Adam Davis (bass) and Jesse Gabriel (drums) —stopped at The Current's studio for a session hosted by Bill DeVille.
Since being signed to Fat Possum, all four members of Seratones have embraced a life of touring, having previously held various day jobs. Haynes, for example, was a high school English teacher. "I miss my kids, I do, because they teach you a lot about yourself," she admits. "I think some of my students still keep up with me and I get a message every now and then, and they say, 'Miss Haynes, this is so cool!'"
Touring, however, has proved quite rewarding for the band; they toured Europe in the summer and have just added more U.S. dates to their upcoming schedule. "You're constantly riding in and out of an adrenalin rush," Haynes says. "It's kind of addictive, actually!"
