Motion City Soundtrack's Justin Courtney Pierre has a debut solo album, In The Drink, releasing Friday, Oct. 12. "I'm amped," Pierre enthuses.
Just two days ahead of that release, Pierre and his band stopped at The Current to play songs from the new record and to talk with Mary Lucia.
When Motion City went on hiatus, Pierre didn't necessarily have the idea to do a solo album. "I just kind of did it," he says. "I didn't know what I was doing and I just kind of pieced it together and then it became a thing and then I sold the thing to Epitaph and now it's coming out and we're doing a tour. It happened very organically, which is great."
And Pierre says it's very affirming that Motion City Soundtrack's loyal fans are excited about his solo album. "When people are responding in a positive way to this thing that has been my vision from the very beginning … it's very validating and rewarding that people are coming along for this ride."
