Pete Shelley, lead singer of the Buzzcocks, passed away yesterday. On Twitter, the band said he was "one of the U.K.'s most influential and prolific songwriters". The band formed in Bolton, England, in 1976 and released 9 studio albums across 38 years.

Shelley also had a solo career -- his song "Homosapien" charted in the U.S. in 1981.
