Many music fans from the Twin Cites, (including The Current's Jade and Jill Riley) are making an annual trek to St. Charles, Iowa — just outside of Des Moines — to see the Hinterland Music Festival,. Get a peek at why the festival has drawn wide acclaim.

The three-day festival wrapped its fifth anniversary on Sunday with Brandi Carlile closing out another impressive lineup, including Hippo Campus, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Maggie Rogers, Hozier, War and Treaty and more. Hinterland saw record attendance, topping out at more than 38,000 across the weekend, with attendees coming in from 34 states and 9 countries.
