Today in 2013, Beyonce's self-titled album was released with no advance notice, sending radio stations scrambling to get the songs on the air and generating lots of free publicity.

And in fact, that's how Beyonce released her next two albums too - 2016's Lemonade and then 2018's Everything Is Love (recorded as The Carters with Jay Z).
