This week, catch a posthumous release from Prince, plus the latest from James Blake, Remi Wolf, and Jack Antonoff's own project, Bleachers. Discover Icelandic artist GRDN and hear what's new from U.K. buzz band Dry Cleaning.

Prince, "Hot Summer"

Back in 2010 Prince recorded an album and put it in the vault. This Friday, Welcome 2 America will be released for the first time. The political and poignant album shows Prince pointing out capitalism, consumerism, hypocrisy, and showing Dr. Cornell West that he could do his own version of Curtis Mayfield. "Hot Summer" was one of two songs Prince shared with The Current back in 2010, and it still feels fresh in 2021.

James Blake, "Say What You Will"

The new James Blake record, Friends That Break Your Heart, will be out September 10. The album finds Blake grappling with insecurity, as he said in a statement: "The song is about finding peace with who you are and where you're at regardless of how well other people seem to be doing."

Remi Wolf, "Liquor Store"

California artist Remi Wolf is still finishing off her debut full length (out sometime this fall), but she's finally sharing songs off it, and it "feels like [she is] shedding a skin." Wolf shared that this song is about her getting sober in the middle of the pandemic, and the quirky artist turns the serious story into a fun and poppy jam.

Dry Cleaning, "Bug Eggs"

One of the most talked-about bands of the year are U.K. post-punk group, Dry Cleaning. The band released New Long Leg in April, and now they have dropped two additional singles, one of which, "Bug Eggs," is a song about being comfortable with yourself as you age and becoming more confident in yourself and your decisions.

GRDN, "Lætur Mig"

We just announced The Current's first-ever listeners' trip to Iceland for the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival in November. One of the artists performing this year is GDRN, the project of Icelandic singer and actress, Guðrún Ýr Eyfjörð Jóhannesdóttir, winner of four awards at the 2018 Icelandic Music Awards (including as pop singer of the year), and also was nominated for the 2018 Nordic Music Prize.

Bleachers, "Secret Life" feat. Lana Del Rey

It's been a big year for Jack Antonoff, with producer credits on the projects of Lana Del Rey, Clairo, Lorde, St. Vincent, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift. Somehow, Antonoff squeezed in time for his own project, Bleachers. The new album, Take The Sadness Out of Saturday Night, comes out on Friday. His song "Secret Life" features a cameo from Lana Del Rey, and it sounds like a b-side from an early-00s Death Cab for Cutie album.
