Them Coulee Boys, a five-piece folkgrass/Americana outfit from Eau Claire, Wis., had made pretty good traction by the end of 2019. In October of that year, they visited Radio Heartland for a session where they played tracks from Die Happy, their most recent full-length to that point, adding to their discography that already consisted of two other albums and an EP. They'd earned the attention of American Songwriter magazine, and their home-state Milwaukee Journal Sentinel named them a "band to watch" in 2020.

When the pandemic struck, however, Them Coulee Boys retreated to their space, and in 2021, they re-emerged with another full-length album, Namesake. Recorded at the Hive in Eau Claire, the album was produced by Grammy Award winner Brian Joseph (Paul Simon, Sufjan Stevens, Ani DiFranco, The Indigo Girls, Bon Iver). In the liner notes for Namesake, novelist Nickolas Butler posits Them Coulee Boys' music has "a reverence for place and people, and this album is the truest testament to that reverence the band has yet delivered."

Namesake releases Friday, Aug. 6; listen to the album tracks below:
