April 18, 2022

April 15 is the date that's generally considered the due date for income tax submissions in the United States. This year, however, the filing deadline to submit 2021 tax returns or an extension to file and pay tax owed is Monday, April 18, 2022, for most taxpayers.

Why the date change? By law, Washington, D.C., holidays affect tax deadlines the same way federal holidays do, so the due date moved to April 18, instead of April 15, because of the Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia. And for people in Maine or Massachusetts, you get until April 19, 2022, to file your tax returns due to the Patriots' Day holiday in those states.

But for most Americans, today, April 18, is the big day to get those tax returns filed. Let's celebrate the way we know how — with music! So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs about taxes or money would you like to hear?
