This week, we’re exploring the latest album from Regina Spektor — Home, before and after.
Spektor’s eighth album was recorded in a converted church in upstate New York where she told The Guardian it was “the most alone recording [she’s] ever done.”
Her first album in six years delves into those fairytales about leaving home or being cast out, or heading out on an adventure. The idea of home shifting and changing from leaving it behind and, sometimes, returning. There’s some classic Spektor question-asking — like in “Becoming All Alone” with the line, “If you have a heart, why don’t you use it?”
It’s earnest, yet playful. A wide-eyed exploration of how we experience the world around us.
