Coldplay hit number one on both sides of the Atlantic. TV on the Radio's Dear Science was a critics' favorite. Slumdog Millionaire was one of the year's best films. Barack Obama became the USA's first Black president. Meanwhile, the U.S. economy faced the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
