"I think people know if they're coming to the Tuxedo show," Mayer Hawthorne says, "they're coming to dance."

You could say the same for a studio session. In the Twin Cities for a show at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, Tuxedo stopped at The Current for a cool, funky set hosted by Mary Lucia. With choreography and several band members wearing matching blinged-out shirts, it felt like a club gig right in our own studio.

One of the recent innovations of Tuxedo is the bright-red "Ho!" button. "The 'Ho!' button kind of started when we were doing our DJ gigs," Jake One explains. "Whenever we were probably getting too drunk and having too much fun and we liked the song too much, we would hit the 'Ho!' button a lot on the computer. It got a little dangerous because we were hitting the computer so much all the time that we thought it would be a good idea to have something [else]."

"We wanted a way to bring that element of our DJ sets into the live show," Hawthorne adds, "and Jake was like, 'What if we just make a big red button that just goes Ho!?' And I was like, 'Wow — that sounds just stupid enough to be amazing.'"

The "Ho!" button has a very fancy case of its own, and it is equally flummoxing to airport security and to engineers at sound checks. But as Jake One says, "It's a sixth member of the group, pretty much."
