Cuco plays 'a really sick set' of tunes in The Current studio
September 29, 2019
Cuco is a rising star hailing from Hawthorne, Calif., and he's been turning heads, garnering critical praise and selling out venues across the country. His debut album, Para Mí, was released earlier this year on Interscope Records, after Cuco — whose full name is Omar Banos — signed a lucrative contract with that label.
When Cuco and his band were in town to play a show at First Avenue in Minneapolis, they stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Sean McPherson.
Cuco forged his path in music as a true DIYer, composing, producing and recording all the music himself. Now, he's on the road with a full band and sound crew. "We're still learning what it's like to be a real, professional band," Cuco says.
They've already completed one North American tour, but Cuco says he and the band are keeping things fresh with a new set of tunes. "We have a new set for all these cities that we've already been to, and the people that haven't seen us live, I guess they're going see us for the first time in a really full experience," he says. "I think we have a really sick set right now. I think we're the best we've sounded."
