Coffee Break: Revolution
by Anna Weggel
June 04, 2020
Yesterday we played songs around the theme of "change". Today, let's take it one step further.
The rest of the officers involved in the killing of George Floyd spent their first night in jail last night and are headed for court on criminal charges. So, nine days after George Floyd died, all four officers who were there when he died are in jail.
The fact that this happened in nine days shouldn't be notable, but it is. After the shooting of Philando Castile, it took 132 days until an officer was charged. After the shooting of Justine Ruszczyk, it took 248 days. After the shooting of Jamar Clark, it took 136 days until the Hennepin County Attorney announced that there would be no charges in the case.
What this says to us is we aren't just experiencing change this week, we are experiencing a revolution.
So, for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what revolution songs do you want to hear?
