Live Virtual Session: The Jayhawks
by Bill DeVille
July 10, 2020
On the week of the release of their latest album, XOXO, the Jayhawks perform a very special Live Virtual Session. Between songs, frontman Gary Louris talks with host Bill DeVille about the new album.
In his review of the album, DeVille postulates that on XOXO, The Jayhawks sound more like a band than ever, with the mic getting passed around almost as often as it did back in the '60s and '70s when The Band made their classic albums. The Jayhawks' Gary Louris affirms DeVille's assessment. "The album evolved over time," Louris says. "I always wanted the band — especially Tim [O'Reagan] and Kate [Grotberg] — to sing more leads during a show. … The audience also wanted to hear more Tim and Karen."
