In partnership with Warner Records, the Prince Estate dug deep into Prince's vaunted vault to release a previously unheard version of the song, "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man." This rendition, recorded at Hollywood Sound Recorders, Studio A on May 23, 1979, and engineered by Bob Mockler, offers a more stripped-down, jukebox-oriented recording of the track.

First retrieved from the archives in 1986, the song was originally intended to be included in the Dream Factory and Crystal Ball collection, before making its way on to 1987's Sign O' The Times. That version of the track would be updated by Prince to match the current trends of rock and pop music: chunky synths, reverb-coated vocals, and electronic drums.

To correspond with the release and the upcoming Super Deluxe issue of Sign O' The Times, the Prince Instagram account shared the song's never-before-seen lyric sheet.

"The new Sign O' The Times expanded reissue will be available this fall via all physical, digital and streaming partners, with the classic album remastered for the very first time. The Super Deluxe edition features 63 previously unreleased tracks, as well as a previously unreleased two-plus hour video concert performance from the vault," Warner Records said in a statement.

"I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" is now available to stream, alongside an antique version of "Witness 4 The Prosecution," another prominent track onSign O' The Times.
