The B-52s announced this week that, after 45 years of performing, they will go on tour one last time on a farewell tour late this summer. The tour begins in Seattle in late August and continues to 10 other cities; so far, Minneapolis and St. Paul are not among them, but there are gaps in the dates that may allow that possibility.

Meanwhile, former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe appeared on the Broken Record podcast, during which he shared some great R.E.M. memories as well as updates on his new projects.

But something that the B-52s and R.E.M. have in common, besides being genre-defining bands, is that they both originated in Athens, Georgia. The city of 125,000 is 70 miles northeast of Atlanta, and it is home to the University of Georgia. It has also been home to a vibrant music scene that has incubated artists and bands who have enjoyed success far beyond the state of Georgia. So let's celebrate that. For today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear by artists with ties to Athens, Georgia?
