This week, we bring you the latest from Tegan and Sara, Silversun Pickups, Sudan Archives and Minneapolis artist Mayyadda. We’ve also got a new collaboration between members of Animal Collective and Spacemen 3, and the mellow sounds of Los Angeles artist NoSo.

Tegan and Sara, “Yellow”

Tegan and Sara have been busy: a new TV show, High School, based on their critically acclaimed memoir will be out this fall; they've announced a huge tour of North America (with a stop at First Avenue on November 6); and there's also a new album on the way, Crybaby. Their new song, "Yellow," covers topics familiar to Tegan and Sara fans who've been around for the duo’s last eight albums, dealing with pain. Sara said the song “was written after we began to take steps to heal the bruises we have both carried with us since adolescence and early adulthood — wounds that never quite healed right and flare up seasonally, sending us spiraling backward in time. Are we doomed to remain forever 15, breaking up and breaking apart? I hope not.”

Silversun Pickups, “Scared Together”

A song about what pulls us together; sometimes those things that bring us closer are beautiful things, and sometimes they are the worst things imaginable. Los Angeles band Silversun Pickups will release Physical Thrills this August, and they share their first look at it, "Scared Together."

Panda Bear and Sonic Boom, “Go On”

A sample-heavy new project from Animal Collective's Panda Bear and Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom finds inspiration in '50s and '60s records. It's a trippy and psychedelic delicate meander about looking to what could happen next.

Sudan Archives, “Selfish Soul”

Sudan Archives has lived many musical lives: classically trained violin player, girl group R&B, indie melodrama. Now she is back with a genre-defying new sound — a mix of all that's come before it. Her confidence and no-F's-given attitude finds a bright home on "Selfish Soul."

NoSo, “Honey Understand”

The debut from NoSo, Stay Proud of Me, just came out, and they'll be heading out on tour soon with Lucy Dacus. The moody "Honey Understand" was inspired by “insanely melodramatic screenplays” they would write each night before going to bed while cooped up during quarantine. (Bonus: This track was Wednesday’s free Song of the Day.)

Mayyadda, “Cinnamon”

Mayyadda’s most popular song, “R.I.P. Captain Save-A-Heaux,” is all about putting up boundaries. But my favorite of hers is “Cinnamon,” a vulnerable break-up song built on expressive piano and a drum loop. Mayyadda uses her greatest instrument, her voice, to share her pain and bittersweet memories of a relationship. – Cecilia Johnson
