Today marks the 31st anniversary of the first ever Lollapalooza. The touring festival was originally created by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour. Unlike previous festivals such as Woodstock, A Gathering of the Tribes, and the US Festival, which were one-time events held at single venues, Lollapalooza toured across the United States and Canada. The Lollapalooza lineup was diverse and made up of artists from alternative rock, industrial music, and rap. It ran annually until 1997 and was revived in 2003. The festival is now a four-day event held annually at Grant Park in Chicago.

While some look ahead to this year’s Lollapalooza, taking place July 28-31, let’s look back at what made the festival what it is today. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs from artists in the ’91-’97 Lollapalooza lineups would you like to hear?
