Today is National Violin Day! Honoring an instrument also known as the fiddle, National Violin Day celebrates the bow stringed instrument loved around the world. Violins have been heard in music for centuries.

While the violin is commonly associated with classical music, the instrument crosses a wide variety of musical genres. Up through at least the 1970s, most types of popular music used bowed string sections. The popularity of crossover music beginning in the last years of the 20th century has brought the violin back into the popular music arena, with both electric and acoustic violins being used by popular bands. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that include a violin?
