On this day in 1985, the film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome opened starring Mel Gibson and Tina Turner. Turner was well-established as a singer already, but became the ruthless and glamorous Aunty Entity in the film. Her hit song "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" also played over the closing credits. Turner was far from the first or last to land fame as both a musician and an actor — and we’re not talking cameos featuring a musician playing an exaggerated version of themself.
