Hip-hop has officially been a part of music for 50 years. This week, leading up to the 50th anniversary of a party featuring DJ Kool Herc held in the Bronx on August 11, 1973, we’ll devote each Coffee Break to a different decade of hip-hop music. It’s time for the 2010s.

In this era, hip-hop established even more of a digital presence, allowing the genre to branch out into every country in the world due to streaming services like Spotify, YouTube, Soundcloud, and Apple Music.

At this point, hip-hop became the definitive driving force in pop culture, which then gave birth to sub-genres like trap, cloud rap, drill, and emo hip-hop. The 2010s are also noteworthy for putting producers more in the limelight.

For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, which 2010s-era hip-hop songs do you want to hear?
