Sampling, a foundation of hip-hop, electronic, and pop music, is the reuse of a section of a pre-existing music or sound. Samples are often altered by producers, sometimes by speed or pitch. Essentially, it’s taking older music, and recycling it into something brand new.

The process became common in the ‘80s, when producers began popularizing the sampling funk and soul records. Ever since, the producers have been becoming more creative with their sample choices, sometimes creating an unrecognizable song from the original. Let’s make a playlist celebrating our favorite songs with sampling in their DNA.

For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, which songs that incorporate multiple sampled songs or sounds do you want to hear?
