The Pogues’ fearless leader Shane MacGowan has died at age 65, according to a family statement. After a lengthy period of ill health, he passed in the early hours of Thursday, Nov. 30.

As the lead singer and songwriter of the Celtic punk band, MacGowan brought new interpretations of the traditional sounds of Irish folk music to new audiences. His voice and words could be witty or heartbreaking — and often both — but it was always clearly him.

Today is all about digging into MacGowan’s singular back catalog. Cheers to a man who will not be soon forgotten.
