The end of the year is upon us, and it's time to reflect on your favorite music of 2023! Here are Barb Abney’s favorite songs of the year. We'll count down your Top 89 of 2023 at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, and at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1.

Top 11 Songs of 2023

Bijou Noir – “That’s No Life”

When I was sent a link to this video, I gave it a listen and immediately fell in love! This is my most-listened-to tune of the year because I think it’s the perfect song for moving on after a relationship ends.

Blur - “The Narcissist”

Just so pleased to hear a new Blur tune!

CHVRCHES – “Over”

It’s all about the harmonies, here (and for me to attempt to sing on key in the car!)

Depeche Mode - “Ghosts Again”

I was worried we might not hear from this band again after Andy Fletcher’s death. But this song is so reverent and true to their sound that I am happy to be wrong.

Dessa – “Hurricane Party”

WOW! Dessa’s always been a powerhouse of a songwriter, with just the right amount of darkness and realism, thrown in for good measure. Putting the lines “Live girls dance… Dead men float” together, stopped me in my tracks.

Durry – “Losers Club”

This song IS the message I wish I would have been taught as a teenager.

Jenny Lewis – “Puppy And A Truck”

Loving the twang on this one! I can’t find a bad song on Joy'All, but this one is my favorite, so far.

Olivia Rodrigo - “bad idea right?”

I didn’t intend to fall musical love with this song. My inner music snob is always prepared to hate “pop” music, this artist is just 20? But just one listen and I’m singing along whenever I hear it.

Semisonic - “Little Bit of Sun”

Yay! New Semisonic! I’ll never get tired of saying those words!

Solid Gold - “Start Again, Feel The Same”

Can’t wait for the full length!! So excited my boys are making music again!

Yard Act - “The Trench Coat Museum”

My ears hear equal parts The Fall and The Streets and I am here for it!
