Earlier this morning, we announced The Current’s March Music Madness will tip off once again. This time, we’re looking back 30 years to celebrate the best albums of 1994, and the tournament tips off on Monday, March 18.

If you remember — or not — in 1994, TV’s Friends premiered, Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa, and the world of cinema saw the releases of such films as Hoop Dreams, Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, Reality Bites, Muriel’s Wedding, Forrest Gump, Legends of the Fall, and Dumb and Dumber.

In music, 1994 was the year that brought us Weezer’s The Blue Album, Nas dropped his influential debut, Illmatic, TLC’s CrazySexyCool topped the charts, Oasis released Definitely Maybe, and Green Day brought punk to the mainstream with Dookie.
