Good News: A listener's story of an unexpected guest
June 25, 2024
This week on Good News on The Current, our story comes from a longtime listener, Gerry, who was surprised by an unexpected guest, and this guest delivered more joy than the mind could have imagined.
Introducing Good News, a weekly series about music making the world a better place
Gerry writes:
“Charley Pride played the central Wisconsin state fair in the early ‘90s. The hotel he stayed at was the hotel where I was a waiter in the restaurant. The hostess and I were getting ready to close up when in through the door walks Charley Pride.
“I'll never forget what he ordered: Two pieces of pecan pie and three scoops of ice cream. I came back to his table with his pie à la mode and set it down. I planned to leave him alone to eat, but he started telling story after story after story. He'd take a bite and launch into another story. Such a wonderful person and an incredible experience. It was just a pleasure to learn that this big star was also a kind and generous person.”
Has that ever happend to you? Just a pleasant surprise through music, a positive moment you’ll never forget?
Gerry wanted you to know that this memory was jogged by something I said and played on The Current, so if you have a story to tell, a moment or a memory associated with a song or an artist, or maybe sparked by something you hear here, share your good news at ajaffer@mpr.org.
