Exploring the musical legacy of Prince and beyond
Because Minnesota music is vital to The Current and our fair state, we created Local Current, a 24/7 stream of music dedicated entirely to musicians from Minnesota, available via our webstream, mobile apps or HD Radio in the Twin Cities at 89.3 HD2.
Local Current is made possible in part by the Minnesota Legacy Amendment's Arts and Culture Heritage Fund.
Please fill out our question form for inquiries about Local Current, or to submit music for consideration.
In the absence of touring, The Current has launched Live Virtual Sessions, connecting you to artists where they are quarantining during the coronavirus pandemic. In this session, host Jade connects with singer-songwriter Valerie June, who is spending this time at her family home in Humboldt, Tennessee. Valerie June shares some songs and positive thoughts.
After playing in various rock bands, such as Trip Shakespeare and The Twilight Hours, Matt Wilson has found his voice and built a sunshiny 'orchestra' that's "not an orchestra. More like a banjo-harp-gentle-rockin-happy machine."
Singer-songwriter Lissie connects with Jill Riley to perform a live virtual session, and also to talk about the ways she's staying creative and connecting with her fans during this time of quarantine.
Nathaniel Rateliff visits The Current studio to play songs from his new solo album, 'And It's Still Alright,' and to talk with host Jade. Watch video of the entire session.
